Tooting Bec Common tennis courts

Tooting Bec Common is one of the largest open spaces in South London and a popular place for jogging, cycling, walking dogs and playing sports. It has football pitches, a duck pond, a well-equipped children's playground and six hard tennis courts. The famous Tooting Bec Lido, the largest open-air swimming pool in London, is nearby.

Cost: £4.50/hour. The courts are not locked so if you arrive out of hours you can use them for free.

Opening times: 9.30am-dusk weekdays, 8am-dusk weekends

Good points: attractive surroundings on the common. Trees provide some limited protection from the wind. Coaching available.

Bad points: court surfaces could do with some renovation. Drainage is poor, causing rainwater to pool on some courts.
